Day 4 - Walkabout

Strange noises surprised to everybody in the beach. Apparently they came from the fuselage. We approached to see what was going on. I thought it was Sawyer, maybe he was robbing things again, but he was close to me and answered ironically about my accusation.
I decided to go nearer with the help of a little lamp. Sawyer did the same but he used a big one.
The sounds that came from that place were confusing. Things that fell and roars. Kate didn't want me near of that place.
I tried that Sawyer put down the strong light from his lamp because we didn't know what was there within, but he, as stubborn as ever, did what he wanted and directed his light directly to the  interior.

The thing that was there reacted violently. It went out roaring and scared and  hitting everything in its path.
We run. Some people fell, others were helped by the other survivors. Charlie had been injured and I came back to help him.
When everything finished, we discovered that the thing that was within was a herd of wild boards.

Restored the peace, I healed Charlie's wounds. Kate, Sayid and me, talked about what had happened. I was worried of the corpses rotting into the fuselage. I told them we needed to burn them. It was necessary. They were in descomposition and they had attracted the boars. It would still happening if we didn't do anything with the bodies. The fuselage, the sun, and the bodies. It would be worse.
They were dead, but we didn't

Firstly, this annoyed to Sayid. He said we had to respect the variety of religions and wishes of each one of the dead people. But that was impossible, there were no time. Finally, he admited I was right.

I said that we had to gather up wood and dried brush and we had to set fire to the fuselage on the sundown of the following day. I didn't say it, but I had the hope that someone see the big fire. Four days had passed since the crash. We knew that it was very difficult that someone find us because the pilot had told us that he had strayed  fairly from his path. But I still kept hopes.

On the following day, the fights came again. In this time it was between Sawyer and Hurley.
Hurley was the person in charge to look after and distribute the food of the plane. Apparently, Sawyer had taken something he had found into the fuselage and Hurley wanted recover it.

Sayid, Bonne and I tried to  separate them. I didn't understand what was the problem and then Hurley told me that there weren't more food.
Everybody got in panic.
Sayid tried to calm them, he said that we could look for food into the jungle. But Sawyer mocked of him and said we didn't have with what to hunt. Then out of nowhere a knife was embedded right next to Sawyer surprising us all. The shooter? a certain Locke. A bald guy, a bit strange, who had been unnoticed until that moment among the survivors.
He gave us a lesson of how to hunt boars because he knew everything about their customs.
Sawyer couldn't wait without his ironic questions. He asked Locke if he thought we were gonna hunt wild boars only with a hunt knife.
I couldn't deny he was right in this time. So, Locke showed us what he had into his luggage. It was full of diferent kind of hunt knives.

Later I saw Kate, she was preparing everything to go again into the jungle. I asked her if we were gonna hunt now, hahaha. I didn't understand why she was gonna enter in that place again. This "thing" was a mistery yet. We only knew it was dangerous, and that's it.
I distrusted of Locke, I didn't understand how he had done to fly with all those knives on the plane. There was something really strange on this guy.
I knew it wasn't logical that Kate go with that group to hunt wild boars, then she told me she was gonna into the jungle to put a transmitter built by Sayid and triangular the signal with the other which was already on the island. She also told me she was not gonna hunt because she was vegetarian.

Something on that girl still liked me.

Everybody collaborated in gathering wood and dried brush to make the fire of that night. Claire, the pregnant girl who I had helped the crash day, brought me some things that belonged to a couple of just married who had died in the accident. She wanted me to do a memorial service or something similar. But I wasn't good for things like that. I told her I couldn't do it, and went on accommodating things of the fuselage. So that, she would do it.

The stench emanating from the fuselage was insupportable. Bonne approached to me to ask me if I could help the black woman, Rose. She hadn't drunk or eaten for hours. The only thing that she had done was to be sitting in the edge looking to the sea. She held a ring that was around her neck. Bonne told me she was waiting for her husband who was in the tail of the plane.

I don't know why he asked me to do it, I wasn't a psycologist, but he insisted. He told me I was the most appropiate because I had saved her life. Well, I approached to her. I approached to her with some water and a coat.
I talked to her for a moment but she didn't seem to hear me. I was sitting beside her,
The time passed. At last issued a few words. She told me her husband, Bernard, never used his wedding ring when he was in a plane, because his fingers usually swelled.
For a moment, she looked at me and said didn't have to hold my promise. She gave me the freedom. But I didn't understand what she meant. Then she reminded me that I had promised her to look after her until her husband went back from the bathroom... hahaha. I didn't remember it. How many things had happened since that fateful moment.
I said I was not going to get rid of me that easily. A bit of encouragement changed the expression of our faces.
I told her she didn't have to be alone. She was suffering the posttraumatic shock effect of the accident. She stared me and said everyone was suffering it.
She was right. Who was better among the survivors? I believe anyone.
She told me very deep things about me. I was embarrased to hear her words. Then she asked me if I had chosen to be a doctor because of my vocation. I thought for a while and then answered sincerely. It was a familiar business.

It was late and I told Rose we were gonna burn the fuselage with the bodies within. I asked her if she wanted to see the ceremony and say goodbye to her husband. But she stared at me and said totally convinced that her husband wasn't died. I tried to explain her, as best as I could, that her husband had been in the tail of the plane and everyone had seen how the plane's tail was burned. He couldn't be alive. But she answered me that they, the people on the tail, maybe thought the same of us.
I didn't know what to say to her. I was thinking, looking at nowhere.

But something shocked me
Pero algo me shockeo.

The figure of a man under a tree in the distance. I couldn't believe my eyes. It couldn't be...
Rose called for me and it made me pull out of my thoughts. I saw to the same place again but that man wasn't there anymore. I didn't know what was happening to me.

The group of hunters returned to the beach, and with them, Kate. She was talking with Sayid when I saw a wound on her cheek. I approached to her and I checked her. She laughed about it.
But her good mood changed soon. She told me Locke hadn't returned with them and that he could have been a victim of that "thing" on the jungle. I felt bad.  I just couldn't believe that we couldn't know what was that thing that was attacking us.
I told her that the fuselage was gonna be burnt and someone was gonna say some words for the dead. I looked at the jungle and suddenly I saw that strange man again. This time, I ran to find out by myself.

Me puse mal.

I arrived to that place without breath. I was scared , I didn't want to accept what I was seeing with my own eyes.
I entered into the undergrowth. Suddenly the branches began to move. Someone appeared, but it was Locke. I was there, looking for everywhere that man who I believed have seen, but I didn't find him.

Locke returned and with his prey. He had been able to hunt a wild boar to feed everybody on the beach. I was turbed and I couldn't react. What was happening to me?

On the sundown, started the fire. The survivors were joined close to the fuselage. They read the names of the victims. For it, they used their passports, identity cards and belongings, that they had found among the rests of the plane.

I walked away. I didn't want to participate in the ceremony. I wasn't adept to funerals. I sat in front of the sea and I stayed looking to the horizont. Trying to make a balance of all what had happened up to the moment. Trying to understand what I had seen among the trees. Trying not to freak out.

Day 3 - Tabula Rasa

Everything recovered the peace and quiet. People accommodated the luggages which had fallen all around the beach. They looked for clothes and things that could be usefull.

My patient was worse and he tried desperately to tell me something. His words had no sense. He just kept repeating "don't trust on her" "she's dangerous". Then he asked me to search his handcuffs, on his jacket pocket. When I did it, I found a sheet of paper with Kate's pics. This was a mug shot. I didn't know what to think.

Night arrived, Hurley helped me to put up a makeshift tent to look after my patient.
He was intrigued by "the thing" out there. He thought that it was a dinosaur, hahaha. I told him dinosaurs were extinct.
While I was checking the sick man, Hurley asked me if he was dieing. I was exhausted, I hadn't rested since the crash, but I tried to be kind. I told him he was putting rigid, and yes!, if the fever didn't down, the man was gonna die. At that moment Hurley found the mug shot. He looked it in horror and asked me what I thought she had done. I didn't want to convince myself about it. I told him it wasn't our business and although he insisted, I stood my ground.

The following morning I could hear that the group had returned. Sayid talked to the rest of the survivors. He told them that they hadn't had success in their mission. But they had to pick up all the electronic equipment they could. Cellphones, laptops. He would try to build a transmitter which serve. He also asked them to look after of the food, and if it rained, they had to pick up water. He organized three groups to pick up water, electronics and food. He seemed to be a great leader.

When Kate saw me, she approached to me. I'd been waiting for her return, I didn't know if I should say what I knew or not. But she had another interest. She wanted tell me about her trip to the jungle. She said when they were looking for a signal, they had crossed with another signal which also proceeded from the island. A French woman repeated once and again the same message. She said everybody was dead. And apparently, the message had been repeated for 16 years. That disoriented me.

When she finished, I asked her if she wanted  tell me something more, but, she changed the topic. She wanted to know about my patient. I told her he was equal. She insisted. She wanted to know if he had awaked and if he had talked. I told her he did. He had awaked during the surgery. Stared at her for a moment, waiting for her confession, but she didn't.
I began to suspect that behind of her beautiful eyes, was hidden something dark. Maybe my patient was a policeman and she was in his custody. I was in alert.

Hurley, my great collaborator, didn't stop asking me about Kate. I didn't want to talk about it. I told him I didn't know anything. I changed the topic. I needed more antibiotics, hard ones. I asked him search them on the overhead compartments, but he was terrified and prefered to take care of the sick man instead of entering in a place full of dead people. I understood him.

Although I was a doctor, it was difficult to enter in that place.
While I was revising the luggages, I heard noises and I jumped. But maybe it was the wind. Suddenly noises became louder, so I went to investigate. Then, in the middle of the dark, Sawyer appeared laughing at me. This guy was becoming odious

He was picking up cigarrettes and things that were useful for him. He said he wasn't robbing because I was doing the same. When he said I was wasting my time, he infuriated me. He went on saying that I wasn't gonna cure to that guy, he was already dead, and I had to save that medicine for the others. Then he left.

A torrential rain began to fall. I went to the makeshift tent where the sick man was. I was surprised by something that I didn't expect. My patient was attacking to Kate. I fought for take out her from his arms. He was choking her. But when he dropped her, he began to tremble and to have attacks. I gave him some water. I couldn't understand what had happened. I suspected of Kate. I couldn't with my doubt.

No podía calmarlo, comenzó a temblar y a tener ataques.

Kate was bad but I was so tired of suspecting of her so I didn't do anything to help her. I asked her what she had done to him. She explained to me she had tried to help him and he had attacked her without sense. I went out of the tent to look for water and she followed me. She didn't stop asking me constantly if that guy was gonna die and if he was suffering a lot. And finally she did the question that made me react in a very bad way.  She asked me if I could stop his suffering.

Then, I told her I wasn't a murderer. I was furious because I felt used, so I told her that I'd seen her mug shot. Then I returned to the tent.

The night arrived. The cries of the sick man could be heard for everywhere. It was awfull. Everybody wanted he shut up. I went on trying to fix him, trying not to let him die. I couldn't. I had to try everything. Sayid told me he was perturbing the rest of the survivors.
All was worst. He was suffering a lot. At that moment he began to talk. He asked me not to trust on her, don't let her catch me. I didn't understand what she had done to him so that he asked me that thing. But he denied to tell me. Instead, he asked me he wanted to talk with Kate. I accepted because it could be the last wish of a dying man

I called Kate and I went out of the tent.

Hurley approached to me, curious. He questioned me because I had let the sick man alone with Kate. But I told him it didn't have risk. Then he told me she had a gun.
I run to prevent she kill him, but I saw she coming out of the tent. For a moment I felt relieved, but, suddenly an outburst broke into the night. At that moment I saw Sawyer brandishing a gun.

I couldn't belive what he had done. My anger was such that I was willing to fight with that guy.
Sawyer said he had done what I hadn't had the courage to do. But while he provoked me with his ironic words, we could hear the moanings of the sick man. Sawyer had shooted him but it hadn't provoked him the death, instead, it would be slow and painful.
He didn't understand. He believed that he had gave him a coup de grace, but he was wrong. I threw him out of the tent and tried to help that guy up his death

Then I went totally defeated to the beach. I felt incredibly tired and dejected I sat on the edge and I stayed there waiting for the dawn.

Kate approached to me and tried to tell me about what she had done, but I didn't want to know. I told her that our lives had finished when we fell in that island three days ago. And now, everybody should be able to begin everything again.
